Texting between the Internet and cellular/cell/smart lphone users?

Hello.

I don't own a cellular/cell/smart phone because I rarely go out and talk
on the phone due to my speech and hearing impediments, and hate paying
subscriptions. Lots of young people seem to use them for texting, but
hate using e-mails, IMs, online chat, etc. They say it is old school. :(

Are there online free services, on the Internet, to do text messaging
for sending and receiving? Thank you in advance. :)

Do you have a IM client? Some of the IM clients will allow you to send
SMS's right from the client.

http://messenger.yahoo.com/features/sms/

for starters.

Yes, but I use Trillian v3.1 and v4.2 basic since I use more than one IM
services and hate having to have more than one clients running at the
same time. I don't recall it having SMS though and cannot find it. I do
use its YM, but I cannot find a way to send SMS in it. I did post in
http://forums.ceruleanstudios.com/showthread.php?p=819696 to ask about
it. :)

I believe with any AIM client, you can use +1XXXXXXXXXX and add as a
buddy. That works with Pidgin, not sure about Trillian. (ie +1 and the
area code and number).

Trillian support says that does work, but I haven't received any
feedbacks from people yet.

It seems like only AIM work for sending and replying SMS'. Others either
don't work in sending or doesn't receive replies. :(

depends on the provider (cell phones), for verizon if you send an email to
(10 digit #)@vtext.com the first 140-160 characters goes as text to the
phone, and when they text back comes to you as email... I've heard others
have it too, but never messed with anything other than verizon....
